Overview
The Gateron X is a linear switch that Gateron positioned as an updated version of its long-running Yellow line. It pairs a nylon-blend milky top housing with a nylon bottom and a polished POM stem carried over from the Pro series, seated in a newer bottom mold marked with a small "x" engraving on its underside.
Polished interiors and slider rails aim for a smooth feel in stock form, and the switch has been sold in both factory-lubed and unlubed versions. Gateron has released it across several rounds and colourways while keeping the same underlying design.

Honestly, right now I keep thinking 'wouldn't Milky Black Pro or Milky Yellow just do the job?' -- the materials and stem/spring lengths are about that basic. There's probably a keyboard it shines on; it felt mediocre on a Keycult, so I suspect a thockier board would resonate better with it. Either way, this is a switch you'll need to go on a journey to find the right home for. 3 stars, including some credit for the possibility it surprises me somewhere.
