Overview
The Gateron Oil King is a linear switch from Gateron, sold factory pre-lubed and ready to use out of the box. It pairs a nylon top housing with a POM stem, a combination reviewers credit for a stable stem with minimal wobble and even smoothness through the stroke.
Reviewers describe its sound as deep and full — often called bassy on bottom-out — rather than sharp or high-pitched. As a stock linear it targets users wanting a smooth, weighty feel without hand-lubing or extra tuning.

There's unit-to-unit variation with the Oil King, and it seems the lubing also differs from person to person. In my case, though, it was lubed heavily—so much so that, true to the name, oil (lube) was seeping out from the gaps around the switch stem.
There's smoothness to it, but a bit of scratchiness remains as well, so it's not the kind of smoothness you get from HMX or Keygeek. I'd call it a distinctly Gateron smoothness—smooth, but with a touch of scratch still there.
As for the sound, rather than thocky, to me it's more creamy. That said, it's not a melt-in-your-mouth creamy—it's more of a creamy sound with some scratch mixed in.
