Overview
The Gateron Magnetic Spark is a linear Hall-effect switch made for magnetic keyboards, where magnets and sensors read the stem's position instead of physical contacts. Because actuation is measured by travel distance, the trigger point can be set freely, and the design avoids contact bounce and chatter.
It uses a polycarbonate top housing, a PA66 nylon base, and a polycarbonate stem. The stem has a dual-drive modular design that separates the keycap mount from the magnet-bearing lower section. It sounds very deep.

An interesting switch — the keycap-mount and the magnetic part (the stem shaft) are separate, and the bottom housing has clever touches, giving a pure typing sound. It's Hall-effect, yet there's almost no magnet noise; call it thocky or creamy, it's genuinely close to a real mechanical sound.
At $1.70 a switch it's outrageously priced — without that, I suspect it'd be seriously popular. It felt like a new era for HE switches.
(Added 2026-02-18) After trying the KeyTok Nova and TTC Horse, this is still my No.1 magnetic switch, so I'm bumping it up — the sound is truly pure, my favorite.
Any HE board works, but the difference showed more on a top-mount SK75 TMR than a tray-mount NuPhy RH65, so maybe avoid tray mount. The one catch: it's just expensive. That's it.
