GitHub × Omnitype’s $175 Bauer Lite Blind Box bundles a complete custom build
The GitHub Universe collaboration brings a randomized Bauer Lite kit to the GitHub Shop, including Hawk linear switches, GitHub-themed PBT keycaps, stabilizers, tools and a USB-C cable.

GitHub and Omnitype have brought their Bauer Lite collaboration to the GitHub Shop as a $175 consumer kit. The Bauer Lite Blind Box combines a randomized color scheme with the switches, keycaps, stabilizers, tools and cable needed for a hands-on keyboard build.
The GitHub Shop listed the consumer version as available during our November 3 check. It is a kit that requires assembly, with a hot-swap PCB and RGB underglow. Colors cannot be chosen, and the store does not state a fixed end date for the offer.
From GitHub Universe to a home build
In the announcement supplied to Keebpedia, Omnitype says the collaboration grew from an in-person version of its Keyboard Design Lab at GitHub Universe 2026. Attendees could choose component colors and assemble a board at the event.
The online blind box takes a different route: the component categories are specified, while their color combination remains a surprise. Omnitype describes the event as a chance for newcomers to build their first keyboard and for experienced hobbyists to try its Design Lab in person. Those are the organizer’s account of the activity, rather than Keebpedia’s on-site observations.
What is randomized?
According to Omnitype’s announcement, the top enclosure, bottom enclosure, plate, Taco bumpers and Donut bumpers each receive a random color. Base keycaps come in either a light or dark scheme, with an accent selected from eight colors. The GitHub listing independently confirms that those component colors may vary and cannot be selected.
The photographs are examples of possible builds, not a promise that a buyer will receive a matching configuration. The randomness concerns the color combination; it does not turn the listed switches, PCB or kit contents into unspecified components.
What comes in the box?
Omnitype identifies the keycaps as Keyreative PBT dye-sub, with custom GitHub Universe legends and novelties. It also describes this as the first public availability of its Hawk linear switches. The GitHub store confirms the Hawk name, linear type and quantity, but does not provide a full switch specification sheet.
The kit includes the parts that the regular Bauer Lite base offering leaves as add-ons: switches, stabilizers and keycaps. That makes the $175 listing a complete-build bundle; comparing it with the price of an unconfigured barebones kit would leave out those components.

The Bauer Lite platform
Bauer Lite is Omnitype’s injection-molded polycarbonate 65% keyboard platform. The regular platform uses a WKL layout with small blockers, a 5-degree typing angle and an isolation-mounted plate, supported between strips and bumpers. Omnitype lists VIA and QMK programmability.
The GitHub edition uses that platform to put an enthusiast-style build in a developer-merchandise store. Its distinct offer is the combination of a build experience, event-specific keycaps and a surprise color scheme. Keebpedia has not tested this edition’s sound or feel.

The public-facing Consumer option is $175 at the GitHub Shop, with shipping calculated at checkout. The page was purchasable when checked on November 3, 2026. Omnitype’s announcement describes availability while supplies last; neither the announcement nor the listing gives a dated closing time or a promised restock.
